Claudia Ledezma won first place in her category at the 2017 Concurso, the annual juried art competition in Mata Ortiz, Mexico!! We were thrilled to hear the news, since she has been an artist that we featured before at one of our museum shows. Claudia Ledezma and her husband Luis Rodriguez are some of our favorite potters in Mata Ortiz! Highly skilled second generation potters, their work is consistently high quality, thin walled, light weight and with great attention to detail. They favor the Mimbres designs in their work, and combine the fine painting with the wonderful textural quality of carving on the surface of the pottery. I love how thin walled their work is.. crisp and clean and perfectly formed! Their work never lasts, and we have been consistently bringing home great treasures from them!
I love the unique turtle and spikey horned lizard design of this unique piece, and the black painted accent design at the top of the piece done with a paint brush crafted of long strands of human hair ! This pot also features beautifully carved geometric designs across the surface of the piece. The simple painted areas provide a nice balance to the intricate carving work on this pot. Museum quality work from a young artist! The piece is signed by the artist. A pottery display ring will be included at no additional cost.
