Arely Silveira Mora is only 14 Years old, and is already crafting quality pottery! I have known her since she was a small child, and have always seen her drawn to artwork. She lives across the street from the house that I always stay in when I am in Mata Ortiz, and since she was young, she has always brought over an adorable drawing for me. Her ability to draw on paper is now being transferred to her artwork, and it is exciting to watch a young talent develop! Arely is the daughter of Tomasa Mora and her husband Armando Silveira, two fantastic potters who craft every stage of their pottery from the hand building without the use of a potter's wheel, to the burnishing of the pottery by hand polishing it with an agate stone that achieve a brilliant natural shine, to the making of the paints from natural pigments and minerals and the painting of the designs with long strands of human hair, to the traditional firing of their pieces on the ground in their backyard. It gives us great hope to see Arely carrying on the traditions of her parents. This piece is signed by the artist, and a pottery ring is always included at no additional charge for all of our Mata Ortiz pots.
