Angel Amaya is another of the artists who just consistently capture our attention. His pottery is so unique in the village, and always draws us in. He is a potter from the Barrio Porvenir section of town, who has established his own readily identifiable design style. The pottery is fired to a brilliant Deep Terracotta color, and combined with fine detailed white designs in pattern reflecting an appreciation of the traditional styles. This may be in part because he learned to paint from Juan Quezada's sister Consolacion, and her son Mauro. Angel Amaya is featured on page 82 of the famous book that became the go to written documentary of Mata Ortiz and the earlier pottery families.. "The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz". To this day, you will see collectors traveling the village, book in hand, to obtain the autograph of the potters featured in this wonderful book. The combination of colors is just outstanding, and the technique involved is masterful. The earthy qualities remind us of the land that it comes from, and the masterful white painting sets it apart from others.
