One of our favorite trips on our travels in Oaxaca was to the village of San Pedro Cajonos! Situated high in the mountain Sierras three hours from Oaxaca City, this is one of the most idyllic settings that one may ever find! Perched at the top of the mountains, with sweeping views of the surrounding canyons and distant pueblos, San Pedro Cajonos kisses the clouds and shines in its art forms. One of the most famous of San Pedro Cajonos artists, is the Blas Family of wood carvers. There style is so unique, and can be identified readily upon sight. Bright colors, and fine painting are their hallmarks. This Quetzal perched on an actual tree branch is simply stunning! I love the creative touch of the painted bird claws on the tree branch, and the long tail is fantastic! The painting on this piece is gorgeous and eye catching. The bird separates from the tree branch for safe shipping. Grab it while you can!
