Tribus Mixes are famous for their unique and intricate contributions to the world of woodcarvings. They began as a home and school where teenage children were invited to participate in learning the arts of wood carving and painting. Proceeds from the sale of their artwork are used to provide scholarships for these same children to attend school and receive an education that would be impossible for them to obtain in their village. Neftali and Noe Martinez are brothers from the Tribus Mixes, and run this wonderful school for children. Their goal is to provide a future for the children of their tribe, teaching them art forms and educating them to give them opportunities in life. Opportunities they themselves say they never had. What a wonderful cause to support!
This fine woodcarving is of a biznaga cactus, complete with a visiting hummingbird perched on one of three flowers. The flowers and hummingbird are detachable for safe shipping, every petal comes out of the flower stem, and all the feathers separate from the hummingbird's body. Once reassembled they can always be glued into place, but the removable pieces make this much less fragile to ship. A fine example of the whimsy, creativity and artwork that is put into each woodcarving done by the Tribus Mixes.
