We fell in love with the work of Rene Xuana a few years ago on one of our trips to Oaxaca. Rene Xuana is part of the famous Xuana Family of San Martin Tilcajete. He is a notably skilled wood carver who has a great sense of both whimsy and reality in his carvings. His wife Rudbelia is an expert painter who does fine work with much precision. It is a pleasure for us to be able to share their work with you! I love the face and the feet on this owl carving, and the painting is just so perfectly executed with all the minute dots and lines, with pops of a metallic accent! Other carvers who can even attempt to carve out of one solid piece of copal wood charge much more for their carvings, making Rene's work a great opportunity to own a quality Oaxacan wood carving.
