This cool long horn bull toro carving was created by Juventino Melchor of the well known Melchor Family of woodcarvers from San Martin Tilcajete in Oaxaca. Juventino carves whimsical figures out of the traditional Copal wood that is indigenous to the area, and is well known for his animal and musical animal figures. Painted in bold colors, these figures are stand outs both for quality and for their affordability. I love this piece for how striking the colors are with the bold red that is accented with cool green, as well as the spectacular carving itself that is full of a wonderful sense of movement in the positioning of the legs, the curvature of the horns and the curved tail So whimsical and creative! The quality of this carving is amazing, with such a sense of movement and character, yet carved out of one single piece of wood. The piece has been signed on the bottom by the artist, and there are no removable parts. An excellent carving indeed! Just gorgeous!
