This gazelle carving was created by Juventino Melchor of the well known Melchor Family of woodcarvers from San Martin Tilcajete in Oaxaca. Juventino carves whimsical figures out of the traditional Copal wood that is indigenous to the area. He is well known for his deer, gazelle and musical animal figures. Painted in bright and cheerful colors, these figures are stand outs both for quality and for their affordability. The piece has been signed on the bottom by the artist, and the ears and long horns are removable for safe shipping.
