Another stand out piece from Master Carvers and Painters Jacobo and Maria Angeles! This large rabbit is a fine example of how beautiful Oaxaca wood carvings can truly be, when left in the hands of master artists. Clean lines and a definite sleekness to the carving, yet full of whimsy and movement.. two of our favorite elements in Mexican Folk Art! You can feel the energy in this rabbit.. as it prepares to scamper away, yet has stopped to perk up his ears and listen for potential predators. The arched back, the positioning of the legs, the upturned tail, the upright yet swept back ears, the elongated snout and the round prominent eyes.. all combine to give this rabbit the perfect touch. Then when you combine the expert carving with these exceptional hand painted designs that are both paying homage to the Zapotec Indian designs of the artists' heritage, yet move forward with a cool modern flare.. all I can say is WOW!!Expertly crafted with absolute attention to every detail. Jacobo and Maria Angeles join forces to create the perfect union in woodcarving and intricacy in their painting techniques. Whereas may of the female painters often take a backseat to the men who carve the pieces, Jacobo and Maria realize the importance of teamwork and mutual respect. As a result, all of their pieces are signed with both names, and they collaborate equally on all the pieces they artfully craft. Although relatively young compared to other woodcarving artists in their community, they are extremely talented, and their level of craftsmanship is actually superior in many ways! Their pieces demand a very high price, and are displayed in museums and galleries around the world! Jacobo and Maria can often be found in the United States, in museums and in classrooms, and enjoy sharing their artwork and teaching others. Jacobo and Maria Angeles' art can be distinguished by not only the expertise of master level woodcarving, but also in the intricacy of the painting of each piece. The painting technique is beautifully reminiscent of the fine brushwork of Native American designs, but the designs are based on Zapotec Indian symbolism. I love all the intricate detail in the paint design of this rabbit, and the color combinations are just beautiful. There are no removable parts. The piece is signed by Jacobo and Maria Angeles, and is number 105 in this collector's series of large rabbits. A certificate of authenticity is included from the artist.
