Yaneth Sandoval is a young potter who is already crafting quality pottery! Yaneth only recently began creating Mata Ortiz pottery, after marrying Armando Silveira Jr, the son of Tomasa Mora and her husband Armando Silveira. Tomas and Armando are two fantastic potters who craft every stage of their pottery from the hand building without the use of a potter's wheel, to the burnishing of the pottery by hand polishing it with an agate stone that achieve a brilliant natural shine, the making of the paints from natural pigments and minerals and the painting of the designs with long strands of human hair, all the way to the traditional firing of their pieces on the ground in their backyard. Yaneth grew up in the city of Cuidad Juarez, but having family in Mata Ortiz, traveled to Mata Ortiz often. She found great teachers in both her husband and her in laws, and was inspired to start creating her own unique nature inspired sgraffito pots.

This small pot features a lizard design. It is done in the sgraffito technique where layers of paint are built up, and then etched to reveal the color of the actual clay below. But this pice was first covered with a multi colored speckled paint design, to add some extra visual appeal. This pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery ring is always included at no additional charge, but not really necessary in this case.
