Mata Ortiz Pottery Oscar Ramirez Lizard Seed Pot

Mata Ortiz Pottery Oscar Ramirez Lizard Seed Pot
$45.00

Availability: In stock

We were delighted by the whimsy of this cool seed pot. The sgraffito carving technique used to create this fun turtle pot is just spectacular, especially considering the very affordable price! A great way to begin your Mata Ortiz Pottery collection, or just a fun addition to an established collection. Oscar Ramirez is the husband of Angela Corona, and together they make a wonderful pottery team, consistently producing nice work with great detail and fun. We love their turtle, lizard, owl, bird and butterfly designs.

The artist actually digs the clay from the surrounding countryside, then strains it to remove as many impurities as possible. This makes the clay one of the softest and easiest out there to work with. The piece is hand made without the use of a potter's wheel, polished with an agate stone, and painted with long strands of human hair. Sgraffito is the technique where layers of paint are built up, and then the surface is etched to reveal the color of the actual clay below. The pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery display ring will be included at no extra charge.
