Mirna Hernandez is the very talented ex wife of Tavo Silveira, who took the top prize (Galardon - Best in Show!) in the 2012 and 2018 pottery competition sponsored by the government in Mata Ortiz. Mirna worked side by side with Tavo, helping him craft his famous prize winning work. Most pieces were signed by both artists as a result. But Mirna Hernandez is a talent that can very much stand on her own. She has won several awards for her work, even after divorcing her husband, and is a truly talented second generation artist. It is nice seeing her come into her own as a separate and unique artist. Her painting technique is incredible and she has a great eye for symmetry and all the fine details, while still being painted by home made paint brushes crafted of long strands of human hair.. I really enjoy the graphic nature of this piece. Truly eye catching! It is also a wonderful thing to note that Mirna has continually encouraged her children to carry on the art traditions that they have learned from their parents. A beautiful tradition indeed! The pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery display ring will be provided at no extra cost.
