Miriham Gallegos is one of the most inspirational women that I know.. a fine artist and an exemplary person! Miriham was at the top of our list to visit on our first trip to Mata Ortiz, and one of the principal motivations for our trip. Unfortunately on that occasion, Miriham was in Phoenix undergoing treatment for cancer. She fought hard and made much progress, and is now back home creating her very fine pottery. She is a fine example of overcoming the obstacles that life puts in our path, and a beautiful strong example for her children. As we are major fans of miniature work, Miriham's pottery really calls to us. Miriham's series of plates are always exceptionally well crafted and eye catching! This Mimbres design turtle plate is no exception. Finely detailed small geometric designs combined with a Mimbres style lizard in the center. I just still can't imagine painting these with long strands of human hair, especially on a concave curved surface! The piece is signed by the artist.
