Martin Cota is one of the most innovative potters coming out of Mata Ortiz, Mexico! As a true artist, he never repeats the same design again, and constantly pushes himself to be creative. His work is very fine. He hand builds the pots without the use of a potter's wheel, yet his pots are smooth, light weight and thin walled - all hallmarks of true quality in Mata Ortiz Pottery! He makes his own paints in the traditional style of Mata Ortiz out of clay, pigments and minerals and paints his designs using a paint brush that he crafts out of long strands of human hair. He is an amazing Master Potter who is versatile in every aspect of Mata Ortiz pottery.I love this owl pot from Martin! It has that adorable and whimsical quality that we love in Mexican folk art, yet it is crafted to perfection with a fine art touch. The imagination in this piece is what gets us though! The owl is removable and can be placed at various points around the lip of the piece, depending on how you would like to display it. Inside on the bottom of the piece, you will also find four owl eggs! So much fun and imagination have been poured into this piece by Martin. How can you resist?!?
