Luis Rodriguez and his wife Claudia Ledezma are quickly becoming some of our favorite potters in Mata Ortiz! Highly skilled second generation potters, their work is consistently high quality, thin walled, light weight and with great attention to detail. They favor the Mimbres designs in their work, and combine the fine painting with the wonderful textural quality of carving on the surface of the pottery. I love how thin walled their work is.. crisp and clean and perfectly formed! Especially considering that their pottery is hand formed without the use of a potter's wheel. This pot is smooth, thin walled and light weight.. all the hallmarks of quality in Mata Ortiz pottery! Their work never lasts, and we have been consistently bringing home great treasures from them! I love the dragonflies that appear on three sides of this piece, and all the cool painted geometric designs! And to think that these intricate designs were painted using a home made paint brush crafted of long strands of human hair! Museum quality work from a young artist! The pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery display ring will be provided at no additional cost.
