Leonel Lopez Jr. is the son of the famous and highly sought after Master Potter Leonel Lopez. At only 21 years of age, he is sure to be a rising star among the young potters of Mata Ortiz. It is wonderful supporting young artists who are carrying on the traditions that were taught to them by their parents! Leonel Jr. is quite talented and seems to have inherited his father's penchant for clean and precise line work. He works in both geometric and animal designs, but this pot is one of his beautiful and modern geometric designs. We love it! Especially with the surprise addition of a beautiful bird on the bottom of the pot where he signed it. The pot is formed out of clay dug from the local countryside and then strained to remove any impurities. Formed without a potter's wheel, this pot has also been painted with long strands of human hair in the traditional method found in Mata Ortiz pottery. The piece is signed by the artist, and a pottery ring will be provided for free with your purchase.
