Lencho Sanchez is the husband of Ivonne Olivas, and the couple are very well known potters from the village of Mata Ortiz, Mexico. Their pots are thin walled, affordable, and expertly painted. Ivonne studied under Juan Quezada, as her aunt is Juan's wife. And Lencho preserves the lace pattern that his sister Claudia Sanchez became famous for. We just love this intricate lace pattern done in a complex and precise placement of small painted cuadricula squares! The matte black clay takes on an almost chocolate brown color and Lencho has accented it with white paint, one of the more difficult paints to work with. The combination is just strikingly beautiful! Then Lencho added another layer of difficulty in this beautiful piece by adding small circular cutouts around the lip, separated by white painted dots. This piece was signed by the artist, and a pottery ring will be provided at no extra cost.
