Laura Bugarini is one of the true Masters of the second generation of Mata Ortiz potters! Laura and her husband Hector Gallegos Jr are two of the finest of the second generation of potters in Mata Ortiz. Their work is highly sought after for it's quality and intricacy, and well as for how unique it is. Among many awards, the couple won the first place award at the 2009 Concurso de Ceramica in Mata Ortiz (the annual juried art show) in the category of Miniatures. They won 1st place again in 2011 in the category of Sgraffito with another collaboration piece. They won Best in Show Galardon in 2012 for their collaboration work!! Then followed it up in 2013 with the Excellencia Award, or the top prize amongst all previous Best in Show Award winners! And as if it just couldn't get any better - Laura Bugarini also took home first place in the National Ceramics Awards in the burnished pottery category this last year in Tlaquepaque, Mexico. Such an honor to be named as one of the very best potters in a whole nation!! Just amazing, and they deserve all the accolades! Laura Bugarini won the Outstanding Woman in the Arts for the State of Chihuahua in 2016. Laura is the 1st woman in Mata Ortiz to win this prize, the highest award in their state across all art forms. In 2016 Laura was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Northeastern Chihuahua, again being the 1st woman artist from Mata Ortiz to be admitted. 2016 also saw Laura and Hector take home the top two prizes in the Mata Ortiz Concurso (annual Mexican Government sponsored juried art show), where Laura won Best in Show and Hector won the Excellence Award for the best piece among all previous Best in Show winners. In the 2018 Concurso, Laura took home 2nd place in her category. Most recently in 2019, Laura Bugarini again won 1st place in her category! Laura developed her own amazing style at a very young age. The level of detail in her painting is amazing, and it is hard to believe that she uses the traditional method of painting with a homemade paint brush made out of a few strands of fine children's hair. She is an expert in fine art level painting.

This piece is a wonderfully creative and unique piece, with an egg shaped pot featured an angled top and a wide opening. Gorgeous! Laura showed restraint in the painting of the piece, allowing the beauty of the actual pot to shine through, and adding a feminine flair and elegance to the piece. The finely painted band work is exceptional, and the base is a nice touch. The piece is signed on the side by the artist.
