Jerardo Tena is another fine potter from among the second generation of potters in Mata Ortiz, who has received numerous awards for his pottery, and travels extensively for exhibitions here in the US. Jerardo is featured on page 179 of the famous book: The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz. Jerardo and his wife Norma are fantastic artists who are known for the precision of both their painting and their pottery skills. They have won too many prizes to list here, taking home a prize at the Mata Ortiz pottery competition almost every year. Jerardo has traveled extensively in the Southwest region giving demonstrations of his work, and featured in far flung places ranges from an exhibit in Harrisburg, PA, to being one of the featured artists at the Los Angeles Pottery Show.
I especially love the precision in all of the little tiny squares on the body of this fantastic chicken sculpture. Done with Jerardo's trademark precision make this effigy even more appealing. And Jerardo's attention to detail is much appreciated in the flared opening of the tail and the red color of the wattle and head comb, which is true to the nature of the animal. The piece is signed by the artist. And a pottery display ring will be included at no additional cost.
