This is a small pot that features the gorgeous and intricate lace pattern that Javier's wife Gaby was instrumental in developing! A gorgeous work of art! This is a pattern that no one else in the village even attempts to copy, as it is painstakingly crafted out of a labor of love. This pattern is so intricate. Each flower petal outline is etched individually in the sgraffito technique to reveal the color of the clay below, and then further etched to include miniature detail on each petal. The flowery florms are then joined to create a lovely lace pattern that covers the surface of the piece. It takes a huge amount of time to craft each piece! And the technique gives the piece a beautiful textural appeal! Javier is self taught and only began to achieve recognition a few years ago, after having also taught his wife Gaby Perez the art of Mata Ortiz pottery! As the town mechanic and brick layer, Javier took the Mata Ortiz Pottery community by storm when he won the 1st Place prize at the 2013 Concurso, the annual juried art show sponsored by the Mexican government. Then in 2014, Javier took home the Excelencia Award, the Best in Show Award among all previous 1st Place winners! Amazing work!! The piece is signed by the artist. Stunning!
