Gerardo Ledezma is from the very well known Ledezma Family and lives in the Barrio Americano section of the village of Mata Ortiz. He is featured in the famous book The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz. Gerardo is well known for his geometric patterns, like this one in black and red. Like many in his family, Gerardo favors forming his pots with white clay, and does expertly formed and thin walled pots painted in the traditional style with long strands of human hair. Great pottery at a great price, and always reliable for great quality! These matrimony wedding pots are fantastic! It is said that the wedding pots were an integral part of ancient wedding ceremonies. Water from both houses were combined inside the pot. During the ceremony, the bride and groom would each drink from the side openings of the pot. The combined water ingested would then symbolize the union of the two houses, the two families. We just love these! There is attention to detail on every surface of this piece! This piece is signed by the artist.
