Elvira is one of the rising stars of potters in Mata Ortiz, and one to keep your eye on for the future. She has beeen wining some major prizes in international and Mexican national juried pottery shows. Elvira took home the Best in Show award at the 2013 Women Potters of Mata Ortiz Juried Art Show that was held at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona. At the same show she also took first place in the category for Innovation and second place in the category for White Clay/Polychrome Paint. Also in 2013, Elvira won first place at the CLAY 2013 International Juried Exhibition, A Tile & A Vessel with a piece entitled Caja Con Puertas de Paquime. In 2014 Elvira went on to win second place at the prestigious Mexican National Ceramic Awards held annually in Tlaquepaque, Mexico with a piece titled Lineas Caprichosas.Elvira's work is known for the finely detailed painted designs that are done in bands that wrap around the pot. It is a design that she learned from her world famous sister Laura Bugarini. Elvira changes it up a bit with the crazy placement of her painted designs, that have to be precisely and symmetrically placed on the surface of the pot. But each pot is actually a true collaboration between Elvira and her husband Jesus Manuel Pedregon. Although only signed by Elvira, Jesus actually begins each piece, with larger and more colorful bands of geometric design. His placement of his own designs, then sets the spacial layout for Elvira to paint the miniature designs that work in perfect harmony with her husband's designs. We absolutely love collaboration work, so these piece definitely speak to us! The piece is signed by the artist.
