Efren Ledezma is from the very well known Ledezma Family and lives in the Barrio Americano section of the village of Mata Ortiz. He is featured in the famous book The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz. Efren learned the art of Mata Ortiz pottery from his brother Gerardo, but is widely considered to be the most creative of his famous family. Like many in his family, Efren favors forming his pots with white clay, and does expertly formed and thin walled pots painted in the traditional style with long strands of human hair. But Efren shows the hallmarks of a true artist with his signature style that features turtles, lizard and snakes rising off the surface of the pot. He also features other designs that feature numerous fish, butterflies and other nature scenes painted around the surface of the pot.
This particular piece is one of Efren's spectacular sgraffito nature scenes that cover the surface of the round pot. With a creative twist, a wild cat has captured one of the deer on the surface of the pot as well. The bottom half of the pot is covered with fish. Fantastically whimsical! There is great attention to detail in this finely crafted piece. The pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery display ring will be included with your purchase at no additional cost.
