Claudia Ledezma and her husband Luis Rodriguez are some of our favorite potters in Mata Ortiz! Highly skilled second generation potters, their work is consistently high quality, thin walled, light weight and with great attention to detail. They favor the Mimbres designs in their work, and I love how thin walled their work is.. crisp and clean and perfectly formed! Especially considering that their pottery is hand formed without the use of a potter's wheel. This pot is smooth, thin walled and light weight.. all the hallmarks of quality in Mata Ortiz pottery! Their work never lasts, and we have been consistently bringing home great treasures from them! I love the three different quail designs that appear on the sides of this piece, and all the cool geometric designs! The geometric designs at the top were painted using a home made paint brush crafted of long strands of human hair! And the designs on the body of the form were intricately carved to provide a wonderful textural appeal to the piece. Museum quality work from a young artist!
