Celia Ortega is one of the very first artists that we drove to Mata Ortiz to meet. We saw her work at a gallery and fell in love! There is such a sweetness in her work! Celia is the daughter of the well known Yoli Ledezma, and favors the use of animal designs on her pottery. Celia uses the sgraffito technique, where layers of paint are built up and then the surface is etched to reveal the color of the clay below and form the fine details of the design. I love the classic combination of white clay with animal scenes painted in black. This pot is modern and fun! The pot is signed by the artist.
