Exciting third generation work from the famous Aguilar Family of Ocotlan, Oaxaca, Mexico! Josefina Aguilar, as well as her three sisters, learned this craft from her mother, the world renowned Isaura Aguilar. Now as Josefina has unfortunately lost her eyesight, her daughter Leticia Garcia Aguilar is taking over the lead role in preserving the traditions of her mother, and her grandmother before her. Leticia has won numerous awards for her work, and is looked at within the family as the new torch bearer of these important traditions.
I love how unique this representation of Frida Kahlo is, surrounded by leaves and holding two macaw birds in her hands. The amount of love and care involved in hand forming this work of art is just amazing! Whimsical and Fun! Full of the characteristics that we love about Mexican Folk Art! The piece is signed by the artist.
