Exciting third generation work from the famous Aguilar Family of Ocotlan, Oaxaca, Mexico! Josefina Aguilar, as well as her three sisters, learned this craft from her mother, the world renowned Isaura Aguilar. Now as Josefina has unfortunately lost her eyesight, her daughter Leticia Garcia Aguilar is taking over the lead role in preserving the traditions of her mother, and her grandmother before her. Leticia has won numerous awards for her work, and is looked at within the family as the new torch bearer of these important traditions.
This piece depicts a woman selling pottery in the market, while carrying her baby wrapped in the traditional rebozo shawl, while balancing a mermaid and marine life on her head.
