  1. Mata Ortiz Pottery Ernesto Ramirez Highly Polished Black Egg With Red And White Paint
    $120.00
Ernesto Ramirez is another well known potter in the village. He is popular for the quality and intricacy of his pots. His designs feature the difficult to achieve cuadricula squares that are distributed evenly across the surface of his pots. Ernesto hand forms his pots without the use of a potter's wheel, from clay that has been dug from the surrounding countryside and strained to remove the impurities. As such, the clay is the purest and easiest to work with, so say the artists from Mata Ortiz. The painting on this piece was done with handcrafted brushes made of long strands of human hair! The pot is polished with an agate stone to achieve a beautiful shine. I love how true to the artist's signature style this pot is, yet it has very modern appeal with the gorgeous egg shape form! The combination of the natural earthy red almost brown paint with the natural white paint is stunning on the highly polished black surface of this piece. The traditional cuadricula squares design that is arranged in the signature pattern style of Ernesto Ramirez, lends a wonderful modern appeal to the piece. The pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery ring is provided for free with your purchase. Learn More
  2. Oaxacan Wood Carving Margarita Sosa Medium Orange Standing Cat
    $60.00
I love this medium standing cat! This piece is done on a black background with multi colored accents, and then accented with gold metallic paint in Margarita Sosa's signature style. This cat was hand carved and hand painted by Margarita Sosa in the famous carving village of San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca, Mexico. It was carved out of the traditional copal wood, a local ecologically harvested wood whose supply is controlled by the Mexican government. We just love the quality of the painting, the whimsical addition of the metallic gold for a pop, the sense of motion in the tail and the extended hips, the adorable face and the bright eyes. This cat wood carving would make a perfect addition to your Oaxacan Wood Carving collection, or the perfect gift for any cat lover out there. The tail is removable for safe shipping, and the carving has been signed by the artist. Learn More

With his exposure to different styles of painting, Giovanni began developing his own style of painting. I love the painting technique on the eyes of this fantastic howling coyote! Multiple lines and varying shades provide for a reflective glass appearance in the eyes, and I have not seen this pattern used before. The shading of colors is beautifully done, and then accented by bright pops of metallic gold on the back of the ears and around the mouth. This coyote has a great sense of movement with the positioning of the upturned head to appear to be howling at the moon.
